A wedding – one of life’s great moments…
A wedding is one of life’s great moments, a time of solemn commitment as well as good wishes, feasting and joy. In the Bible, St John tells us how Jesus shared in such an occasion at Cana, and gave there a sign of new beginnings as he turned water into wine.
Marriage is intended to be a creative relationship, as God’s blessing enables husband and wife to love and support each other in good times and in bad. For Christians, marriage is also an invitation to share life together in the Spirit of Jesus Christ. In the Glen Group, we endeavour to provide the support necessary for couples to plan their marriage service and to celebrate it joyfully at St Mary’s, St Lawrence’s or St Bartholomew’s.
Love between couples is a precious gift – it needs to be recognised, celebrated and protected. That is the purpose of marriage.
Your wedding day gathers together all the resources you both need to make marriage work: deep personal promises; a public commitment to each other – whatever the future holds; the joining of two sets of family and friends; a trust that the God who gives us the gift of this life will inspire us with the love and forgiveness that can enable two lives to become one. Choose the ingredients of your wedding day carefully. Seek advice from the many people eager to help – parish priests and photographers, caterers and caretakers – and plan an occasion which will draw together all the resources you feel you need: then it will provide shape and direction for the rest of your lives together.

These vary from church to church, and are subject to change without notice, but the table below should give you some idea of the amount of money you will need to set aside if you are planning a wedding in the Glen Group. For detailed and up to date information about fees please contact the Vicar’s Administrative Assistant for weddings, Mrs Pat Smith on 725 870.
The Order of
Service
Many couples today like to have a service sheet prepared for their Marriage service. Set out below is the information you will need to put together the order of service for your wedding.
Outline for the
Order of Service for Weddings
If you want to print the full text of the service you are welcome to do so, but you will need to ask for a copy of the full text. Provided here is the outline of the service, which you are asked to include in the service booklet as a minimum requirement. If you require the words of the hymns, please obtain these from the organist. Please proof-read the draft (if possible show the draft to the Vicar) before having multiple copies printed. Amen.
