Reflection on today’s readings

Do we still have our daily quiet moments with God where we pray without saying a word? We connect with God, we listen to Him and He speaks to us through the silence – His still, small voice of calm. Some of us are so busy that we don’t have these precious one to one moments with God anymore – too busy, too much to do! Yet we create time for our friends, we create time for our hobbies and vices. If we want to know God deeply then it is a must that we regularly spend quiet time with Him in pray. Towards the end of our gospel reading for today we are reminded about the importance Jesus placed on finding a ‘desert place’ – space and time for just himself and God.

God and you alone, one to one in silence.

For your prayers this week

  • Today is designated Education Sunday – Learning and Serving. We pray for all those who help children and young people to learn, for the Diocesan Board of Education and for the Diocesan Education Department. We pray for schools in our parishes, staff, children, parents and governors.
  • Today is also designated Poverty Action Day. We pray for churches across the diocese engaged in social action to meet the needs of those in poverty. We remember local groups including Agape Care.
  • Pray for The Anglican Church of Canada, the Most Rev’d Fredrick Hiltz – Primate of the Anglican Church of Canada
  • We pray for the Glen Group as it prepares to welcome a new Vicar to lead the parishes into an ever deepening awareness of God’s love and purposes.
  • We pray for Lynda as she moves to her new parishes. We pray that both Lynda and Peter will have a real sense of God’s presence and over-shadowing and that they will soon feel ‘at home’.

·        We remember and pray for those in our parishes who are ill and those recently bereaved.

Gift Aid We hope that anyone who pays tax will use one of the Gift Aid envelopes for any donations to the church. Be sure to write your name and address on the envelope. We can claim from the Inland Revenue 25p for every £1 given (that’s £2.50 for every £10) – at no cost to the donor! If you cannot see an envelope please ask for one.
