Theme for Today: What kind of Messiah? – Controversialist

Welcome! Those of us who worship and minister in the three churches of The Glen Group pray that your visit will have brought you closer to the God whom we have learned to love and serve. A children’s corner has been set-aside in each of our churches for children to sit and play. At Communion, please bring the children forward for a blessing and a sticker. We invite all who are confirmed or full members of any Christian church to share in Communion.

Have you considered serving on the PCC? Each of the three parishes in the Glen Group will have vacancies to be filled on their PCCs at the forthcoming annual meetings. Please consider whether God might be calling you to this ministry. Speak with one of the churchwardens to find out more about what this office involves.

Annual Memorial Service  Surfleet, 21st March at 4.00pm. Once again this year we are holding a Memorial Service at St Laurence's Church for families who have lost a loved one in the past twelve months. While families who have had a funeral service conducted at St Laurence's during the past months will receive a letter of invitation, anyone who would like to remember a departed loved one is very welcome to attend the service. Please use the sheet in church to list the names of anyone you would like remembered.

Our Confirmation Candidates  Please remember them in your prayers (see page 4).

Giving in all of life  Christians are challenged to be generous in every aspect of their lives. It’s not only about giving money but offering hospitality, giving time and using our skills – in our churches but also in our homes, our workplaces and communities. Giving is the outworking of faith. In which area do you find it easiest to give? Which do you need to work at?

LENT 2010

       Prayer for Lent

God of all comfort, where we are stuck, release us, where we have given up hope, inspire us, where we focus only on ourselves, help us to see the needs of others;

Transform us by your Spirit to be the people you have called us to be, spreading your love and proclaiming your presence throughout the world. Amen.

Reflection on today’s readings

Today’s gospel reading bristles with tension and difficult questions.  Will Jerusalem repent and be rescued?  How are Jesus’ fate and the fate of the city linked?  What is God up to?  There are other questions for us to ask ourselves:  What is God up to in our world today?  In our lives?  Are we bearing fruit for God’s kingdom?
